Refuse Haulers Licensing
Any commercial hauler providing collection and transportation services for residential, commercial, or industrial refuse within the City of Byron is required to obtain a refuse hauler license. This licensing ensures safe, sanitary, and consistent waste collection practices in accordance with city regulations.
Who Needs a Refuse Hauler License?
A license is required for any business collecting:- Mixed municipal solid waste
- Recyclable materials
- Construction debris
**Please note: The City of Byron limits the number of refuse hauler licenses to three (3) for residential services. Please click HERE to see which haulers are licensed for residential pickups.
How to Apply
To apply for a refuse hauler license:- Download and complete the City of Byron Refuse Hauler License Application.
- Submit the following materials:
- Completed and signed Refuse Hauler License Application
- Description of each collection vehicle (including make, model, license number, and capacity)
- Proof of annual DOT certification
- Proof of insurance

Pay the applicable license fee
Each application is reviewed by city staff with final approval by City Council
Requirements & Regulations
- Vehicles must be water-tight, packer-type, and maintained in good condition.
- Collection is only permitted Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except for holiday make-up days.
- Haulers must comply with all applicable city, county, state, and federal regulations.
