Tobacoo Licensing
The City of Byron requires a tobacco license for any business intending to sell tobacco products, tobacco-related devices, or electronic delivery devices (such as e-cigarettes or vapes). This licensing helps ensure compliance with local and state laws and supports efforts to prevent youth access to tobacco products.
Who Needs a Tobacco License?
A tobacco license is required for any retail establishment selling:- Cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, or snuff
- Electronic delivery devices (e.g., e-cigarettes, vape pens)
- Tobacco-related devices such as pipes or rolling papers
**Please note: Licenses are only issued to businesses operating at a fixed location. Mobile or temporary businesses are not eligible.
How to Apply
To apply for a tobacco license:- Download and complete the City of Byron Tobacco License Application.
- Submit the following materials:
- Completed and signed Tobacco License Application
- Completed and signed Certification of MN Workers’ Compensation Law form
- Proof of Insurance

Pay the applicable license fee.
Each application is reviewed by city staff with final approval by City Council.
Compliance & Enforcement
All licensed businesses are subject to compliance checks and inspections to ensure adherence to local and state tobacco regulations. These efforts help prevent the sale of tobacco products to individuals under the legal age and promote responsible retail practices. Violations may result in administrative fines, license suspension, or other penalties as outlined in the City’s ordinance.
