Community Calendar is up and running

By Gretta Becay

As a part of fulfilling the city’s strategic plan, a Diversity Council of volunteers and city staff members was formed last year with the idea of helping all residents know they are welcome in Byron, and - as part of that effort - to create a way to inform people of the many activities available in our area.

The group has worked the last few months on launching an interactive Community Calendar in which groups can post their events and the public can have up-to-the-minute information about what is going on in Byron.

Obviously, our award-winning school district has a detailed calendar of school events. This Community Calendar is for other events people may not know about. For example, in July, the city is host to the fun-filled Good Neighbor Days, a concert at city hall, and great activities at Oxbow Park, just to name a few. Many churches have summer camps/Bible studies, some businesses are hosting pop up markets, and local service clubs host bingo, ribbon-cuttings, and other activities.
