Work on County State Aid Highways 3 and 5 south of Byron is moving ahead

By Gretta Becay

Beginning June 3, County State Aid Highway 5 south of Byron will be closed to through traffic. The work on CSAH 3 to replace a box culvert has been completed and that road will be open and will serve as the ongoing detour for CSAH 5.
Olmsted County is completely rebuilding CSAH 5 and a portion of CSAH 25 between Salem Corners and Highway 14. The work is needed because the roadway is in poor condition, it is narrow, it has no shoulders, it is bordered by steep ditches, and in sections, it has been overtopped with flood waters. The grading, select, and aggregate work will be done during this summer and fall. CSAH 5 is scheduled to be open to through traffic on Nov. 15. Paving is scheduled to be completed by April 14, 2025, and the entire reconstruction of CSAH 5 is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 15, 2025.
