Byron Lions Club Metal Recycling Drive
By: Gretta Becay
The Byron Lions Club Metal Recycling Drive was again wildly successful this year. The group of volunteers monitored the donations that went into these roll-offs all day long on Aug. 17 at the park-n-ride lot across from the Byron Veterans Memorial. Even though it rained on and off during the afternoon, people just kept coming, said Lions Club spokesman Don Huston. He said the effort collected almost 14 tons of metal this year.
The Lions Club sponsors this event on the third Saturday in August each summer. The money raised from the sale of the metal collected goes to Byron projects.
