NEED'S Car Wash Helps Byron Vehicles Stay Clean

By Gretta Becay

One of the first businesses in what is now the center of the East Frontage Road commercial area was NEED’S Car Wash at 509 Frontage Road. In 1995, Dave Eide and three partners built the facility during the spring/summer of that year and opened in September.

The business was there before Byron Auto Repair, Subway, Market Place, and McDonald’s, said Dave.

He explained, “I moved to Byron with my parents in 1972, then in 1994 I moved back to the Byron area with my wife and our daughters who went to Byron Schools. Interestingly, in 1995, Tenth Ave. was still a gravel road without a traffic light, [at the intersection with Highway 14] so there was very little traffic east of the Dairy Queen. Byron did not have an automatic car wash, and there was a need for larger manual wash bays.”

So, when the group designed the car wash, they decided on long bays and, “The double deep manual bays are ideal for customers with boats, trailers, snowmobiles, RV’s, etc.”

Dave has been the sole owner since 2003.

The business is open all the time, literally. You can wash your vehicle morning, noon, and night, in all weathers unless the outside temperature gets down below zero for a stretch of time.

The company offers discounted gift cards for the automatic wash to help customers save money, he said.

Dave’s brother, Jeff, is a huge help with the carwash, said Dave, and they make sure the bays are up and running and ready to serve customers 24/7.

Dave reminded drivers, “In Minnesota, it’s important to keep your vehicle clean to help inhibit rust from the humidity and the salt that is spread on our roads in the winter. Help your car last longer and look good!”
