Golf Cart Permit
Residents of Byron who wish to operate a motorized golf cart or all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on city streets must obtain a permit. This permitting process helps ensure safe operation and compliance with local and state regulations.
How to Apply
To apply for a golf cart or ATV permit:- Download the Golf Cart Application.
- Submit the following:
- Completed and signed Permit Application
- Copy of a valid driver’s license (must be 16+)
- Proof of insurance (meet MN state requirements)
- DNR registration (for ATVs only)

Payment of the permit fee (see the City’s fee schedule for current rates).
- Operators must be at least 16 years old with a valid driver’s license
- Vehicles must travel on the far right-hand side of the road
- Obey all traffic laws and posted signs
- Speed limit: 20 mph
- Golf carts must display a slow-moving vehicle emblem
- No operation on sidewalks or trails
- No crossing of Highway 14or driving along County Road 5

Vehicles may only carry the number of passengers they are designed for
Compliance & Enforcement
Permits may be revoked for violations of city rules. Operators are responsible for knowing and following all applicable laws. The City of Byron is not liable for any injuries or damages resulting from permitted vehicle use.
