Service Line Materials Inventory

The City of Byron has completed and submitted our service line materials inventory to the Minnesota Department of Health. The service line inventory is publicly available, and you can check the materials for your service line by visiting the Lead Inventory Tracking Tool (LITT) at https://maps.umn.edu/LSL  you may also contact city hall at 507-775-3400. To complete the service line inventory our system used existing data from construction records and inspection data collected during meter replacements. As of 8/30/24 our inventory contains 0 lead, 0 galvanized requiring replacement, 354 unknown material, and 2167 non-lead service lines.

The City of Byron's effort to identify Water Service Lines of Unknow Materials identified approximately 350 utility accounts that we cannot identify ALL segments of the water service line.  The letter does invite those who have received this letter to have their water tested.  If you have received the letter and you wish to have your water tested, the City of Byron will collect these samples and have them processed at no cost to the homeowner.  You will need to have a 6 hour period without any water running in the residence for an accurate test.
City staff will schedule a time to take these samples if you contact us.  This program is taking place throughout the entire State of Minnesota.  While we do have unknown service line materials, we are not aware of any lead lines specifically.
For testing, please contact City Hall at 507-775-3400 or email cityhall@byronmn.com  - Deadline for testing is November 15, 2024.
