 How do I contact the City with an after hours emergency?

In an emergency please call 911.

If you need to contact the City after office hours, you can call City Hall at 507-775-3400 and press 8. Your call will be forwarded to a member of Byron's Maintenance Department. Calls will be returned as soon as reasonably possible.

 What are City Hall hours?

Byron City Hall is open Monday - Thursday from 7:30am to 4:30pm and Friday from 7:30am to 1:30pm.

Byron City Offices are closed for most federal holidays.

 

 

 What is the hardness level of the water?

The City's water hardness is 17 grains

 

 

 Do I get a discount on my water bill if I'm watering sod?

Not exactly. You always pay for the water you use, no matter what it is used for. However, the City Council has instituted a cap on sewer usage at 12,000 gallons for residential housing.

 

 

 How do I get a pet license?

The City offers a lifetime pet tag for $25. You just need to stop into City Hall with a copy of current rabies vaccination.

 

 

 Who owns the water and sewer lines?

For the water lines, the City owns the water service from the street to the shutoff valve (in the boulevard). The homeowner owns the water line from the shutoff valve to the house. 
- If there was a water break on the street side of the shutoff valve, the City is responsible for repairing the water break.
- If the water break was in between the house and the shutoff valve, the home owner is responsible for repairing the water break as well as any associated expenses. 
 
For the sanitary sewer lines, the homeowner owns the sanitary sewer service line from the house to the sanitary sewer main typically located in the street. The City owns all sanitary sewer mains.
- If there was a sanitary sewer line break between the house and the street, the homeowner is responsible for the sanitary sewer repair as well as any associated expenses. 
- If there was a sanitary sewer main break, the City is responsible for the sanitary sewer repair.

 How do I get a burning permit?

The City of Byron does not issue burn permits.

Keep in mind that Byron does allow recreational fire pits of no more than 3 feet in diameter. Please remember to use dry/non treated wood. No trash or yard waste.

 Is Meals on Wheels available to Byron residents?
